This isn't the Korean food I grew up with and that's a good thing. Not that I didn't enjoy the plate lunchish, casual Hawaiian style Korean, but I'm much more a fan of the boldly flavored Seoul food served up here.
From the stone pots and stainless steel bowls, to the spicy tofu soup the experience at So Kong Dong is much closer to what I imagine eating in Korea to be like.
Loved the wealth of banchan (side dishes), the raw egg in the soup, the sizzling platter of Kalbi, and the Bim Bim Bap dolsot. While I'd like to return to self grill, it'll be difficult to order anything different.
The atmosphere lacks the indie warmth I like, but let's face it I really wasn't focused on the prosaic ultra clean space. Their food had the spice I crave and the execution of the dishes was spot on, check it out next time you visit Fubonn (it's located in the front right).
So Kong Dong, better than the K-food I remember, and probably about as good as gets in P-town (I'd chose SKD over H-mart and Spring Restaurant), now if only they had kimchee made in earthen pots (Yeah, I watch to much Bourdain).
