arteries forgive me
So this post isn't for the faint of heart.
(vegans and vegetarians might also want to avert their attention)
For the most part we try to eat healthfully, but occasionally I just want a damn good burger. And if I'm gonna get one, places like Salem's WBC (Willamette Burger Company) are the way to indulge. Buns baked in house, Mt. Angel beef ground on site, fresh local products, NW beer & wine. Combine those elements with a creative arterially damaging menu, housemade garlic aioli, and perfectly cooked slightly pink medium rare burgers and you've got the recipe for a blissful afternoon passed out on the couch.
In fact it's probably a good thing the WBC doesn't have a Portland location. Repeats of our gluttonous Old MacDonald Burger-Aunt Jenny's Mushroom Burger-Fries-Chili Cheese Tot lunch are less likely given the drive, but divine intervention or some sort of treatment program would be necessary if this place ever opens in SE PDX.
Both burgers were perfectly done, juicy, and flavorful. The Old Mac with it's fried egg and the mushroom loaded Aunt Jenny both hit the spot, but I'm thinking BBQ, Blue Cheese Bacon, or Border Burger next time. The fries weren't as crsipy as I thought they'd be considering they're double fried. The Chili Cheese Tots could easily be a meal in themselves, smothered in a beefy chili (that's also used in the Vegan's Nightmare Burger).
Actually upon returning I'd be tempted to check out the Grilled Chicken and Portabello Sandwiches. Left barely functional after our last meal this lighter fare would probably make the drive home a little safer.
The most amazing burgers I've ever had? Worth a 45 min drive? No, but for those who take their burgers seriously this is a must visit if down in Salem (don't forget to draw on the table).
