SpielWerk makes it difficult to train violent unimaginitive short attention spanned consumerists.
Located in serenely sublime Sellwood (and Williams in NoPo), this gem brims with colorful objects designed to engage, to develop, and to thrill. Toys that promote positive brain activity and creativity-how many office drones do you know that could use some of that?
And speaking of adults, you know the kids and staff here are completely ah-mazing, but some of the parents...what's up? Some people just don't get it. This ain't Toy R Us or Fred Meyer. These people need to stop getting bent out of shape when they arrive and can't find Transformers or Xbox. It's like going to a great Alberta Arts dive and expecting it to be like the Pearl or wondering why Brunchbox doesn't serve Big Macs.
Were I to have a kid (other than my dog Madison), this is where I'd want to buy their gifts. And for those of us who matured from boring adults to somewhat responsible full grown children they even sell board game classics like Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride. I've also been eyeing their DIY pinhole camera kit.
Come lose yourself in this open ended world of wonder and color. No need to bring a kid as cover (your inner child will do).

Hi Josh,
ReplyDeleteExciting to see your review here. I know you as a neighbor and friendly nearby restaurant worker-person who is willing to bring me food when I'm at work (here, here at Spielwerk!) and come in to visit with your fluffy white doggy side-kick and talk play and toys; Who knew you were a blogger too?! It is fun to see that you love this place like I love this place!
Thanks for your advice about Twitter the last time you were in. I'll see you there and in the neighborhood.
Chrystal
Thanks Chrystal, definitely one of my favorites in P-town. How fun to have an awesome toy store filled with awesome people located so near. See you around! Josh
